Our wines

Aly and Paul Englefield believe that good wine is made in the vineyard as much as in the winery. Growing grapes in marginal regions like the UK requires the best possible sites, which Highdown Vineyard is.

Nestling on the south facing slopes of the South Downs it has all the attributes one could wish for in a great site. Each year a range of still and sparkling wines are produced depending on the ripeness, sugar levels and acidity of each of the seven varieties grown.

The aim is to always make the best possible wines in a given year with each wine showing true expression of the varietal’s characteristics.

chalk-ridge-redChalk Ridge Red

A light fruit red wine made from 100% Dornfelder grapes. It has light aromas of red plums, quince and a hint of liquorice. Initial red cherries on the palate are followed by an earthy smokiness. A true expression of Dornfelder with complexity and a decent length. A very interesting English red wine

A unique single variety white wine with overt aromas of Gooseberry and Elderflower which are carried through on the palate. Very much a taste of West Sussex on a summer’s day.

Silver English Wine of the Year.

the-millers-reserveMiller’s Reserve – Rose

Pale, delicate ‘bluish’ pink and crystal clear in appearance. Pronounced strawberry aromas, which follow through on the palate accompanied by a mere hint of tangerine and white pepper. Lovely, lively, juicy and refreshing. An excellent aperitif wine for the summer (or when you wish it was summer).
